Lyft is making travel easier for its riders by introducing a new pre-order feature at selected airports across the US. The feature is designed to reduce wait times and make the pickup process smoother for passengers.
Riders at Los Angeles International Airport, O’Hare International Airport and Midway International airports in Chicago can now pre-order their ride upon landing. The Lyft app will track the passenger’s movements as they walk through the airport, and will then match them with a driver as they get closer to the pickup spot.
The app takes into account wait times through the airport, including baggage claim, with the goal of having the driver arrive at the same time the passenger reaches the pickup area. This means that riders can lock in the rates offered when they make the booking and avoid worrying about surcharges if it takes a long time to get from the arrival gate to the curb.
The feature is set to expand to airports in Austin, New York-JFK and Seattle by the end of the month and will roll out to more airports soon after.
In addition to the pre-order feature, riders can connect to Apple Calendar or Google Assistant to receive travel notifications for when to leave for the airport. Flight and terminal information will also automatically appear in the Lyft app.
