Citibank has a wide range of terms for its certificates of deposit that you won’t find at many other banks. Customers have a wide range of options when it comes to term lengths, which can be anywhere from three months to five years.
CDs from big banks often have low rates, but Citi has a few CDs that are worth looking into if you already bank with Citi.

Note: Annual percentage yields (APYs) shown are as of October 27, 2024, and may vary by region and deposit amount for some products.
Citibank also has two other kinds of CDs: a Step Up CD and a No Penalty CD.
The Step Up CD has a 30-month term and earns interest at different rates depending on which month it is. However, the rates are definitely subpar.
The No Penalty CD is a CD with a one-year term that lets you take out the whole balance before the term is up.
Withdrawals from a No Penalty CD can’t be made until six days after a minimum deposit of $500 has been made, and withdrawals can’t be made in parts.
The No Penalty CD has an annual percentage yield (APY) of 3.4% and may be a good choice for people who want easier access to funds.

How do Citibank CD rates compare to the nation’s best?
Citibank does have a wide range of terms, but most rates aren’t very competitive. You can find higher APYs at online banks and credit unions if you want to look at options other than branch banks.

Citibank’s other savings options
Citibank also has the Citi Accelerate Savings account that pays a higher rate than most of its certificates of deposit, but it’s not available in all markets.
There is no minimum deposit required to open a Citi Accelerate Savings account. However, a monthly service fee of $4.50 and a $2.50 non-Citibank ATM fee apply to a Citi Accelerate Savings account without a checking account in the Citi Access Account Package if an average monthly balance of $500 or more is not maintained.
Also, the bank’s savings accounts come in a number of different packages that are linked to a checking account.

Is Citibank a good choice?
Citibank is one of the largest banks in the world, with a presence spanning across multiple countries and a wide variety of products and services.
Citibank has established a reputation as one of the safest places to invest money and store funds. Customers also benefit from a range of rewards and loyalty programs that are designed to recognize their commitment to the bank.
A certificate of deposit (CD) from Citibank is a good way to save your money and grow your wealth in a safe and secure manner. But, only a handful of their terms are worth considering.
When you invest in a Citibank CD, your funds are placed in an FDIC-insured account, giving you greater assurance of security. Maturities range from 3 months to 5 years.
Unlike savings accounts, you’ll receive a guaranteed interest rate throughout the term of your CD โ meaning you donโt need to worry about the market influencing your returns.
Bottom line
Most of Citibank’s CD terms aren’t competitive with the nation’s best CD rates. If you already bank with Citi then you may find a few terms worth considering.
The Citi Accelerate Savings account does have a rate better than most traditional big banks, so going for one of Citi’s banking packages may be a good fit. You’ll have to check your zip on the Citibank website to see if their products are available to you.
They have branches in these states: CA, CT, DC, DE, FL, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NV, NY, PA, SD, TX and VA.
A big advantage with Citibank is that they usually have welcome bonuses available for their checking and savings accounts.
