Beware of this FALSE bonus!
I opened a new Capital One 360 savings account on 5/21/20. On 5/22 I received an email advertising the SCORE500 bonus. So of course I called and asked an agent if they would honor the bonus as I received the email the VERY NEXT DAY and was planning to transfer $40-$50k into the new account anyway. I was told a “note” would be made to my account and to call back after the 90 day waiting period at which point they would review my account and make a decision about the bonus. On 5/21 I had already set up an external account to transfer funds from another institution into my new Capital One. Due to the holiday 5/25-the external account was verified and ready to use on 5/26. So I made an electronic external transfer for $40k+ on 5/26 which exited the other bank on 5/27. Today (5/28) those funds show up on my Capital One account as a “pending transfer” to be completed/available on 6/1/20. I just called and spoke to another agent-who has just confirmed that I have 10 “calendar days” to make a deposit from an external account to my new Capital One account to qualify for the bonus-making that deadline 5/31. But it takes Capital One 2-3 “business days” to set up an external transfer account and another 2-3 “business days” to complete that transfer and make those funds available (or sometimes longer as I was told). So CONVENIENTLY enough-it will take over 10 calendar days to accept my $40k+ transfer which should have qualified me for a $400 bonus. And even worse is the fact that the agent wont just tell me I no longer qualify-but instead can only tell me to “call back after Oct 28th to have my account reviewed”. Absolutely worst experience I have ever gone through with a banking institution. So disappointed with the false advertising and poor handling of a new account/customer. I’m not hurting for their bonus-it’s the misleading advertising that bothers me. Hopefully this helps someone out there not get suckered in like I did!
They did the same thing to me. It took them 7 days to link my new account to my regular bank. Then another 4 days to transfer funds completely which makes 11 days. I guess I’ll find out if I get the bonus after about 4 to 5 months.
Capital One is also trying to screw me out of the $500 bonus and claiming it is for funding the account too early! These scumbags actually got my money too soon and now after completing the time requirements they are attempting to NOT pay the bonus money. I am filing a complaint with the state of Florida for deceptive practices as I continue to see posts of other people they have attempted to screw too. I would not have know that the bonus was not deposited had I not looked to deposit several hundred thousands dollars more into the account but that will now go to another bank. Capital One is a dishonest company and will no more of my family’s money.
I almost made the mistake of opening a new account with a large wire transfer, until I read your comment, thank you!
The Cap One Refer a Friend option is not available and hasn’t been available for about a month. No date know yet when (if) it will be restored. Is there any recourse since the Refer a Friend has “no expiration date”?
The only link i found to refer-a-friend is https://www.capitalone.com/bank/refer-a-friend/
However, after clicking “Refer-a-friend” button, it brings me to sign in my account, and I can’t find the referal page again. Cannot find it anywhere even in “Settings”. If someone knows how to access it, please let me know.
A lot of banks have lowered and or suspended their interest rate in the last few months. Many businesses have suspended their coupons they normally offer due to hard times we are living in.
Who knows if this is just temporary or permanent.
?
I’ve had so far. $ after you deposit $200 or more from Square’s Cash App or stablish a direct deposit of $200 or more from your employer. You can also make an ACH tranfer from any bank. Easy free money right there.

Tony, Where is the “$1,000 bonus” you claim is offered by CapitalOne?
Yeah EXACTLY!!!
Tony, The $200 360 money market bonus has been extended to 21/31/17
Did anyone have to enter a promo code for the $400 ($200 360 Checking + $200 360 Money Market) to receive the bonuses that apply to promo running until 9/30/17?
I didn’t receive the offer for the $400 bonus and I still got it. I used the promo code PLUS400 when I opened my account, made two direct deposits from my employer and voila, my bonus money arrived within days of my second deposit.
Got my sign is bonus two days after my second direct deposit!!! Was not targeted … easiest $200 I’ve ever made… I’m in California… thank you!!!
Elaine,
When you put in the offer on line, did it tell you it was an invalid or did it take it? I’m trying to put it in and it’s saying it’s not a valid code.. I am in CA, too. Just wondering if there is still a chance…
Hey, did everyone do only direct deposits from your job? Did anyone do ACH and receive the bonus? Also, is a transfer from one checking account at another bank to the 360 considered ACH? Thanks in advance!
Where do you input the code? I just applied via the link https://www.capitalone.com/bonus400/ but dI’d not get an option to put in the referral code…
I opened my account on 5/11/17. I get weekly deposits direct from my employer; so when the third deposit hit last night I thought to myself, “Aw man the promo must not have worked!”.. But lo and behold, I got a text notification that the $400 was deposited into my account a few hours ago! I didn’t receive a target offer, just used promo code “PLUS400”.
Was not targeted for the offer, and even called to ask about it. They told me it wasn’t an offer that was available to me. I opened one anyway. Completed the deposit requirement this past Monday……… bonus posted on Tuesday!
Sweet! Another successful report! Everyone should try this one for sure.
Opened the PLUS400 account offer 2/3/2017, completed direct deposits on 3/16, bonus of $400 posted on 3/21/2017.
I’m in MI and just tried the $400 bonus on 5/17/17. NOTE it did not tell me whether or not I qualified, just let me go through with opening the account, so I called (before going through the hassle of switching direct deposit) to confirm whether or not it went through and it HAD NOT approved the bonus nor were there any non=targeted bonuses for my area. So if you’re in MI, you’re outta luck on that one! 🙂 It was easy enough to close the account with the rep right over the phone though so only lost about 10 mins of my time all told…worth it for the possible $400 I guess.
Aw darn, I’ve been hearing all successful attempts previously. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I did not get target offer for 400 but tried any way and just received the bonus.
Wow, very cool! Thanks for the input!
Just an fyi that the $100 bonus is only for residents of specific states. From their website “You must be a legal US resident of MA, NH, RI, or VT”. I’m going with this bank anyway, but you may want to update that in your article.
Despite the disclaimer regarding the offer being targeted, has anyone that didn’t receive the offer pursued the sign up bonus and did it work?
Yes, it worked!
